Projekt Sun Kil Moon narodził się w 2002 roku jako kontynuacja indie rockowego zespołu Red House Painters, w którym karierę rozpoczynał Mark Kozelek. Songwriter z Ohio na swoim koncie ma przeszło 40 albumów, których większość wydał w swoim labelu Caldo Verde z siedzibą w San Francisco; na 2017 rok zaplanowane są co najmniej 4 nowe wydawnictwa. Muzyka Sun Kil Moon łączy w sobie długie i powalająco szczere formy poetyckie z oszczędnymi aranżacjami, które z albumu na album zachwycają swym kunsztem. Kariera Marka Kozelka nabrała drugiego rozpędu wraz z wydaniem płyty Benji w 2014 roku. Benji został okrzyknięty najlepszym albumem roku przez FACT Magazine, The Independent opisał album jako „jeden z najbardziej prawdziwych, najmądrzejszych albumów jakich przyjdzie ci słuchać.” Sun Kil Moon wydali łącznie 10 płyt. Ostatnią z nich jest Common As Light And Love Are Red Valleys Of Blood – ponad dwugodzinna i wyjątkowo aktualna impresja na temat rzeczywistości roku 2016.

„Nagrane w San Francisco i Hoboken w sierpniu 2016. Mark Kozelek i Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) na bębnach. Od lata 2016 twarz Trumpa zalewa wszystkie kioski w kraju. Okres przedwyborczy oraz strzelaniny, oczywiście, trafiły na mój ostatni album. Na naszym koncercie w Nashville perfekcyjnie ujął to Conor Oberst: „musisz nie mieć mózgu ani duszy, jeśli te rzeczy cię nie dotyczą”.
Common As Light And Love Are Red Valleys Of Blood w dużej mierze opisuje zdarzenia, które miały miejsce od stycznia do sierpnia 2016 i jak przetworzyłem to wszystko w trakcie moich podróży.
W tym samym czasie przygotowywany był kolejny album: follow-up do Jesu/Sun Kil Moon. Nasz drugi album pod tytułem 30 Seconds To The Decline Of Planet Earth zostanie wydany 5 maja. Błogosławieństwem było poznanie niezwykle utalentowanego Justina Broadricka i możliwość stworzenia tych pięknych albumów z nim.
Dwa najnowsze albumy uchwycają coś więcej niż moje reakcje na morderstwa w skali masowej czy odejścia naszych ukochanych bohaterów jak David Bowie czy Muhammad Ali. Albumy Sun Kil Moon oraz Jesu/Sun Kil Moon są pełne miłości, humoru i wdzięczności za dar życia.”

Sun Kil Moon in Warsaw on November 17 2017 performing the first non-festival gig in Poland! We are happy to announce that Mark Kozelek and his bandmates will visit Warsaw in order to perform a full, long set in Teatr Palladium. Sun Kil Moon are touring to present the latest album Common As Light And Love Are Red Valleys Of Blood.

Sun Kil Moon was born in 2002 as a continuation of the indie rock band Red House Painters in which Mark Kozelek started his career. The Ohio songwriter’s discography consists of more than 40 albums; 4 new records are confirmed for 2017 so far. Sun Kil Moon’s music combines long and immensely honest poetic forms with modest arrangements, reinvented on each album, always enchanting with their finesse. Kozelek’s career experienced increased exposure with the release of Benji in 2014. FACT Magazine named Benji the best album of the year, according to The Independent it is “one of the truest, wisest albums you’ll ever hear.” Sun Kil Moon has released 10 records by now. The latest album entitled Common As Light And Love Are Red Valleys Of Blood is an over 2 hour long and astonishingly current impression of the year 2016.

„Recorded and mixed February through August 2016 in San Francisco and Hoboken. Mark Kozelek with Steve Shelley on drums. From the summer onward, Trump’s face was all over newsstands. The buildup to the election and the shootings made their way into my new album, obviously. As Conor Oberst put it so perfectly at our show in Nashville, „you’d have to have no brain and no soul, for these things to not affect you”.
Common As Light And Love Are Red Valleys Of Blood, for the most part, captures events from January to August of this year and how I processed it all while traveling.
Another album was in the works at the same time: the follow up to Jesu/Sun Kil Moon’s self-titled debut album. Our second album, entitled 30 Seconds To The Decline Of Planet Earth, will be released on May 5. I’m blessed to have met the very talented Justin Broadrick and to have made these beautiful albums with him.
These two new albums capture more than my reactions to mass murders or the passing of beloved heroes like David Bowie or Muhammad Ali. The Sun Kil Moon and Jesu/Sun Kil Moon albums are also full of love, humor, and my gratitude for the gift of life.”
